The Richard Antwi Scholarship has named Jewel John as its sixth scholar.
John will be awarded a full scholarship for a place this year on University of Westminster’s Music Business Management MA course in London, starting later this month.
John, who recently earned BA in Music Business & Arts Management, relocated from Amsterdam to London. She co-founded ‘Soul & the City,’ a live music events company aimed at developing and showcasing emerging talent.

Through the support of Universal Music UK, Universal Publishing UK, Sony Music UK, and Sony Music Publishing UK, John will also receive a ‘London Living Wage Stipend’ to offset the heightened cost of living and studying in the UK capital. The combined bursary and stipend amount to GBP £22,000, complemented by mentorship and tailored work placement opportunities aligned with John’s professional goals.
Last year saw the scholarship awarded to Janelle Mitchell, a London-based DJ and emerging music executive at Believe.
Established in 2016 in memory of the late Richard Antwi, a highly regarded figure in the music industry, the scholarship seeks to provide a pathway for aspiring music business leaders from underrepresented communities.
In addition to last year’s recipient, Mitchell, the scholarship has also previously supported Shanice Edwards, Idris Green-Holder, Jojo Mukeza and Esther Bokuma, and associate scholars Daniel Beckley and Isatta Sheriff. Edwards now works at Sony Music, while Green-Holder received a scholarship supported by Universal Music UK and is now working at 0207 Def Jam.
Commenting on John’s selection, Richard Antwi’s brother Phillip Antwi said: “Huge congratulations to Jewel John, my family and I welcome her into our growing community of scholars. After a competitive call for applications, we couldn’t be more delighted to award the hugely deserving Jewel as this year’s scholar.
“The Scholarship allows us to honor and continue Richard’s vision and values by contributing to a more equitable industry for exceptional young talent from underrepresented backgrounds. Major thanks to all our generous funders who enabled the additional ‘London Living Wage’ stipend, which was hugely needed in the current socio-economic climate.”
Phillip Antwi added: “Seven years on since my dear brother Richard’s passing, it is wonderful and humbling to be part of his legacy and make a difference to aspiring young music business leaders through the Scholarship. Richard would have undoubtedly been very proud to see the impact on young careers the Scholarship has had.”
The Richard Antwi Scholarship is open to Black and minority ethnic students in the UK who have secured a place on the MA Music Business Management course at the University of Westminster.
In addition to financial support from Universal Music UK, Universal Publishing UK, Sony Music UK and Sony Music Publishing UK, the scholarship has also previously been funded by several music companies and music law firms including XL Records, Beggars Group, Young, Clintons, Hoare Associates and Modest! Management.
