jacqueline saturn: professional philosophy
In an interview with MBW in 2018, Jacqueline Saturn talked about the influence of artists in the modern music business, saying, “The world is very different now, especially with social media. Artists are way more savvy about the music business, as are young people starting [labels] – they can be in control of their own destiny.
“There are definitely artists out there that have started building a brand on their own, or seeing the excitement when they put their music on SoundCloud, who think: ‘No. I’m my own boss, and that’s how I want it to stay.’”

On the modern music business more broadly, Saturn told Rolling Stone in 2020: “It’s a fast business. People talk about things like TikTok, but it’s not just about that: It’s about being in tune with new opportunities, new developments, new audiences that we can reach. We could wake up tomorrow and have a different partner. You have to be on top of everything. Sure, there are certain jobs that require a certain skill set, like if you’re applying to work in the finance department, it’s different from applying to work in the digital music department, but what we’re really all doing is trying to reach different audiences. You have to be able to move fast.”Music Business Worldwide
