YouTube has appointed Carletta Higginson as Director, Global Head of Music Publishing.
The five-year Google veteran steps up from her previous role as Director, Music Publishing in North America for YouTube and Google Play Music.
Higginson joined Google as Manager, Music Partnerships for YouTube in 2013, a role she held for three years, before being named Corporate Counsel for Global Music in 2016.
According to her Linkedin, within her current role: “Ms. Higginson builds and maintains strategic relationships with major content owners at senior levels, including negotiating complex digital licensing and partnership agreements, managing existing partnerships, launching new relationships, driving new business opportunities, resolving business issues, and analyzing and tracking key metrics. Ms. Higginson works cross-functionally with colleagues across multiple disciplines across Google.”
Before joining Google, New York-based Higginson was a partner in the litigation department at Jenner & Block LLP for nearly eight years from 2006 onwards.
The news of her promotion comes eight months after MBW revealed that Apple had appointed Elena Segal to the role of Global Director of Music Publishing.
Segal joined Apple in 2006 after four years as an Associate at Mitchell Silberberg & Knupp LLP.
She has since covered a wide range of legal and licensing matters for iTunes and Apple Music – including the initial licensing required to launch the iTunes Store in multiple territories.
Segal also headed up licensing for the global launch of Apple Music, which first arrived in over 100 markets back in June 2015.Music Business Worldwide
