Warner Music Group has officially announced the new leadership structure at Warner/Chappell with Guy Moot (pictured left) and Carianne Marshall (pictured right) taking charge of the publisher.
Effective today, April 1, long-time Sony/ATV exec Moot becomes Co-Chair & Chief Executive Officer, alongside Marshall, who has been Co-Chair & Chief Operating Officer since January.
The duo jointly replace ex-Warner/Chappell boss Jon Platt, who succeeds former CEO and Chairman of Sony/ATV Martin Bandier.
The news was previously confirmed via an internal memo on January 9.
The announcement follows Warner/Chappell’s move to a new headquarters at Warner Music Group’s downtown LA offices.
Both Marshall and Moot report to Warner Music Group CEO, Steve Cooper.
Prior to joining Warner/Chappell this past June, Marshall was Partner, Head of Creative Services, and Head of Creative Licensing at independent music publisher SONGS.
She joined SONGS in 2006, helping build a roster of over 300 songwriters, including Lorde, The Weeknd, Diplo, DJ Mustard, and many others.
Marshall served as the company’s executive leader on the West Coast, consistently posting double-digit revenue growth, while overseeing a creative licensing staff responsible for placing compositions by SONGS’ writers in film, television, commercials, video games, and other visual media.
She was also responsible for developing and nurturing the company’s non-top 40 roster.
Marshall previously spent three years as Director of Motion Picture and Television Music for Universal Music Publishing Group, prior to which she worked in the Film/Television Music division of DreamWorks Music Publishing from 2000 to 2003.
Marshall began her music industry career at Los Angeles-based VOX Productions, where she did live music production, while managing and booking local bands. In 1996, she joined Elektra Entertainment Group, working in Marketing & College Radio Promotion.
Moot has signed some of the biggest songwriters in the world, including Amy Winehouse, Lana Del Rey, Mark Ronson, Arctic Monkeys, Jamiroquai, Arcade Fire, StarGate, Deadmau5, Sia, Paul Epworth, and Sean Paul as well as overseeing the signings of current chart toppers Ed Sheeran, Drake, Calvin Harris, Sam Smith, Charli XCX, Anne-Marie, and Jorja Smith.
After starting his career in 1984 with A&R roles at both ATV Music and Chrysalis Records, he joined SBK Music Publishing in 1987, ahead of its merger with EMI two years later. Over the next sixteen years, he rose through the ranks of EMI Music Publishing, before being appointed Executive Vice President of A&R for the UK and Europe in 2003.
Two years later, he became Managing Director of EMI Music Publishing UK and President of European Creative.
In 2012, Guy took on additional responsibilities, leading the Sony/ATV and EMI Music Publishing merger across Europe.
Then, in 2017 Moot was appointed President of Worldwide Creative and at the same time continued in his role as Managing Director in the UK.
