Tidal’s new ‘Collabs’ tool will give artists custom recommendations for potential ‘creatively compatible’ collaborators on the platform

Music streaming service Tidal has unveiled a new service that lets artists message with other artists via the platform to set up collaborations.

Called “Tidal Collabs,” Tidal says the new tool provides artists with the opportunity to initiate collaborations, whether for guest verses, live performances, or expanding their creative network.

According to Tidal, since 2019, there has been a 123% increase in the number of tracks available on the platform that have been created as a result of artist collaborations.

The new service is available for free through Tidal Artist Home, a profile management hub introduced earlier this year for artists to manage their Tidal profile visibility and access a range of other functionalities.

Artists who opt-in for TIDAL Collabs will get recommendations for what Tidal calls “creatively-compatible artists” who are also on the platform.

Then, it’s up to the individual artist to decide whether or not they want to connect with one of the collaborators recommended to them. If they are interested in making a connection, the artist can send a message directly on TIDAL Collabs.

To celebrate the launch, Tidal has partnered with Grammy Award-winning producer Jermaine Dupri for the Tidal Collabs Spotlight contest.

US-based artists who connect through Tidal Collabs have the opportunity to participate, vying for a chance to win in-studio time with Dupri.

Winners will receive mentorship and insights into the collaborative process, along with marketing support for their joint track.

Artists can apply by submitting their entry through a form sent to them after opting into Tidal Collabs. The deadline for submissions is January 17, 2024.

Speaking about the initiative, Jermaine Dupri said: “Finding artists and producers to collaborate with isn’t easy, so TIDAL Collabs is a gamechanger.

“A great collab brings different fan groups together to connect over something fresh.”

The launch of the new feature comes four months after Tidal raised its subscription prices, with the Tidal Hi-Fi tier now priced at $10.99 per month in the US from $9.99. Family plan subscriptions also increased to $16.99 from $14.99 per month.

Agustina Sacerdote, Global Head of Product at Tidal, commented on the launch of Tidal Collabs, saying: “We built Tidal Collabs to take the stress and inefficiency out of the process of finding great collaborators. We leverage our data and editorial expertise to recommend high-quality collaborators in an environment that is tailored and safe.”

Added Sacerdote: “We know from speaking with thousands of artists that they are looking for ways to evolve their artistry and grow their audience. Collaborations are a powerful, organic way to do this.”

Tidal Rising artist Nino Augustine added: “As an artist whose music defies categorization, I believe collaborations play a huge part in making my music resonate universally.

“I’m excited to use TIDAL Collabs to help me find other artists to explore exciting new creative possibilities with.”

Launched in 2015, artists that have previously joined the Tidal Rising emerging artist program include Alessia Cara, 21 Savage, A Boogie wit da Hoodie, Mr Eazi, and Chloe x Halle. Earlier this year, Tidal redirected all artist payouts to Tidal Rising.
