Little over a month after Spotify‘s Global Head of Curation, Mike Biggane, left the company to join Universal, another major industry-facing executive at the streaming platform is exiting his role.
Nick Holmstén’s time as SPOT’s Global Head of Music is over, a company spokesperson has confirmed.
Spotify says that Holmstén will not be leaving its midst entirely, and instead will transition into a senior advisory role working outside of the firm’s core music team.
The departure of Holmstén itself comes two months after former UMG exec Jeremy Erlich joined Spotify as Head of Music Strategy.
You see, just like Holmstén, Erlich has ‘Head of Music’ in his title. But he also has ‘Strategy’.
Funnily enough, as Spotify searches for a new full-time Head of Music, Erlich will take over the running of the company’s music team in the interim. He will do on an equal footing with Marian Dicus, who is currently SPOT’s VP, Global Head of Artist & Label Services.
Could Erlich or Dicus claim Holmstén’s now-vacated hotseat on a permanent basis? Or will Spotify bring in an outsider from a major label or elsewhere?
Nick Holmstén joined Spotify after the company acquired the startup he founded, Tunigo – and its music discovery technology – in 2013.
Previous to his role as Global Head of Music, Holmstén headed up Shows & Editorial at Spotify.
He took on responsibility for Artist & Label relations following the departure of Spotify’s Global Head of Creator Services, Troy Carter, a year ago.Music Business Worldwide
