We are looking for a People Experience (PX) Business Partner to join The Orchard. You will partner with all levels of The Orchard in the UK and Europe, ensuring that people, talent and development solutions are in place to support growth in each market as well as supporting any day to day PX issues.

The Orchard is a leading music distribution company operating in 45 markets worldwide – distributing music from independent artists including Ozuna, Skepta, Jorja Smith, and Kelsea Ballerini. With cutting edge operations and an unparalleled global team, The Orchard partners with labels of all sizes to make their music and video available across hundreds of digital and physical retailers around the world. At The Orchard, the focus is to provide a comfortable, social and engaging environment to encourage productivity and creativity.

This role has direct BP responsibility & stakeholder relationship with the leadership team in the UK as well as the relevant teams in each international market, advising on both people growth and change management agenda, being integral to designing and delivering the right solution to achieve company goals in each market.

You will report into the Senior Director, People Experience based in NYC and have the support of a PX Coordinator here in London.The role is also responsible for identifying and shaping The Orchard company culture alongside the leadership and employee committees, to design and enabling creative and inclusive people experiences that enrich our team’s career in the music industry.

This role is a permanent role and based at our London office in Kings Cross.


What you’ll do

Business Partnering:

  • Build strong, collaborative relationships with managers and leaders within the business to become a trusted advisor.
  • Support management on daily HR related topics including Performance
  • Management, Employee Engagement, Training and Development,
  • Organisational Design and Employment Relations.
  • Partner with local leadership and employee committees to identify desired company culture and implement initiatives to enrich the people experience in your business unit.
  • Work in partnerships with central teams including DE&I, Talent Acquisition, L&OD, Compensation and Benefits, Compliance and IS&T ensuring your client group is utilizing and benefiting from group wide resources and adopting best practice where necessary in the local market.
  • Partner and advise the management team in recurring HR processes such as Pay and Bonus reviews.
  • Introduce and improve long term employee-centric practices that align with Sony Music’s creative and inclusive culture.

Employee Relations and Policies:

  • Represent and lead the HR agenda on complex ER and Change
  • Management projects in the UK such as TUPE, Merger & Acquisition, Joint
  • Ventures and restructures. Comfortable navigating in a matrix set up in a fast-paced, creative or consumer-oriented environment. Equally, where present in international markets, partner with the local affiliates to lead on similar projects where necessary.
  • Act as the main advisor to business leaders and managers on day to day policy and complex employment matters, including performance management, grievances, disciplinary, terminations and collective consultations.
  • Regularly audit and maintain key employment policies to ensure compliance with local labour law and regulations across the entire employee lifecycle.
  • Partner the local management in ensuring client group both in the UK and in international markets is adhering to global compliance policies.

HR Processes:

  • Oversee the effectiveness of end to end HR activities of the employee operational lifecycle, from employee on-boarding through to off-boarding.
  • With the support of the People Experience Coordinator, you act as the point of escalation point for overseeing operational success throughout.
  • Ensure excellence in the mobility experience from visa application to employee mobility experience. Partnering with internal and external partners to deliver.
  • Oversee and sign-off HR administration and paperwork prepared by the
  • People Experience Coordinator.
  • Provide first line advice on local UK and International HR policies and benefits where appropriate.
  • Oversee key operational activities managed by the Coordinator such as payroll and benefit processing.
  • Oversee Occupational Health, Safety and Risk for all regional offices
    Who you are:
  • Proven experience of building a strong partnership with a leadership team to deliver on short- and mid-term goals.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to learn the ins and outs of the industry.
  • You have proven experience in advising management level stakeholders on HR matters and change management employment law in the UK and demonstrated ability to navigate matrix global structures.
  • You’re self-motivated, highly organized, passionate about the detail and naturally curious and collaborative.
  • Ideally operated in a stand-alone capacity and have worked with client groups of 100+ employees. Bonus points for supporting clients groups located in multiple countries/territories.
  • You have some experience of acquisitions
  • You’re familiar and comfortable operating in a matrix structure
  • You are a successful negotiator and influencer and comfortable with managing occasional conflict.
  • You have real listening skills and respect for keeping information private.
  • Familiar with HR Database(s)
